I'm thrilled by the way that our generation is fighting against injustice. I love the movements, the campaigns, the fight. It gives me hope and makes me so excited. I love that we are people who are beginning to care about Africa. I am glad that we are getting honest with the way we've imprisoned women and men with a brand of beauty that can't ever be attained. I am thrilled for the discussion, the creativity to which many are approaching problems and seeking solutions. I would like to draw your attention to two campaigns that I love...that I believe are going to have an impact on culture.
and then watch this
and then make sure you also are aware that it is true that young girls do not like themselves. I am abundantly aware of this because I have real conversations with beautiful girls that are in my church programs...they are amazing and it it is chilling to find out that they hide this secret of self-hatred at the age of 6, 7, and 8 years old. It is frightening. So watch this...and alert others...and pass it along.
Fighting for little girls...and their right to feel beautiful!
I have found that it is a possible and real thing to like yourself...to feel comfy in your own skin and to laugh at your imperfections and be honest about your fears. We have to free both men and women to like themselves...and to "be" we have to fight moments for our identity. We are made in the image of God...of the creator of Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. All that beauty and He says that humans are the most beautiful of all...and yet...we are self-deprecating, self-hating, unbelieving zombies wandering in a haze of false ideals and re-touched realities. We must must must become safe with being real...as we are...beautiful. It's a good space to come to...and return to...and fight for!
